Amendments and Revisions on Japanese IP Laws and Examination Guidelines
First building design, interior design and GUI design registered in Japan

In Japan, a building design, an interior design and a GUI design can be protected under the revised Japanese Design Law which went into effect on April 1, 2020.
According to the JPO announcement, as of October 8, 2020, 204 applications for building designs, 132 applications for interior designs and 450 applications for GUI designs have been filed. Recently, the first building design, interior design and GUI design to be granted under the revised Japanese Design Law were published in the attached Official Gazettes.
