The Tenth Revised Edition of "How to Draft Patent Specifications"

The COVID-19 pandemic, which began around 2020, has finally come to an end. During the pandemic, various technologies developed, including artificial intelligence (AI). With the advancement of AI, computers can now learn and make certain decisions on their own, without humans having to provide all the factors for analysis and focus in advance. In this revised edition, we have included information on how to describe specifications and claims related to Materials Informatics (MI) technology, which uses AI to contribute to the discovery and development of new materials.

Additionally, in this revision, a rising patent attorney specializing in biological inventions has joined as an author, enhancing the section on drafting specifications for biological inventions. Furthermore, this edition provides insights on how to draft claims that facilitate the enforcement of patent rights, not just securing patent rights.

Moreover, to help those with limited intellectual property experience get up to speed quickly, we have expanded the section on points to keep in mind during interviews with inventors. We have also reviewed and enriched the section on case examples of judgments.

This revised edition is the first update since the transition from the (former) Itoh International Patent Office to the (new) ITOH Patent Attorney Corporation, and it marks the commemorative tenth edition. We hope this book will be of help to those walking the path of patents, as well as to inventors.
